About

The Faculty of Information Science and Engineering is a research and teaching unit that integrates industry and education and promotes the coordination of science and education. It is based on the forefront of physics such as sound, light, electricity, magnetism, and quantum mechanics, with a focus on microelectronics and information communication, artificial intelligence and big data, network space security and confidentiality, and new supercomputing. The faculty's research also features ocean smart sensors, ocean smart information, and ocean intelligent equipment development, with application areas in smart cities, smart oceans, and smart living.

The faculty's predecessor can be traced back to the Physics Department of the National Qingdao University in 1930. It went through various development stages including the Marine Physics Department, the Department of Physics and Electronics, the College of Technology Science, and was officially established as the School of Information Science and Engineering in 1999. In March 2021, it was restructured as the Faculty of Information Science and Engineering, which includes eight schools: the School of Physics and Optoelectronic Engineering, the School of Electronic Engineering, the School of Computer Science and Technology, the School of Ocean Technology, the National Institute of Secrecy, the School of Software, the Industrial Internet Research Institute, and the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute.

The faculty has a total of 313 faculty and staff members, including 49 doctoral supervisors, 60 senior professional and technical personnel, and 100 associate senior professional and technical personnel. Approximately 93% of the full-time teachers hold a doctoral degree. The faculty currently has one national innovation team and eight faculty members who have been awarded national honors, as well as fifteen faculty members who have received provincial and ministerial-level honorary titles. Relying on the university's Building Peak Talents project and Young Elite Talents project, the faculty has created a high-level diversified talent team, including the Building Peak, Hai Chuan, Elite, and young teachers.

The faculty has two first-level disciplines for doctoral programs in Computer Science and Technology and Software Engineering, as well as two postdoctoral mobility stations in these disciplines. It also has three cross-disciplinary doctoral programs in Ocean Technology, Physics and Optoelectronic Information Science, and Artificial Intelligence, as well as six first-level master's degree programs in Physics, Optical Engineering, Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, and Geography. The Electronic Information Professional Degree Big Data and Artificial Intelligence programs have been approved as pilot bases for school-enterprise cooperation by Shandong Province. The Computer Science and Technology discipline has entered the top 1% of the global ESI discipline rankings.

The faculty offers a complete range of undergraduate programs, including Physics, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, Microelectronics Science and Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Intelligent Science and Technology, Data Science and Big Data Technology, Ocean Technology, Network Space Security, Confidential Technology, and Software Engineering. The Computer Science and Technology program also has a Sino-foreign cooperative education program. The programs of Computer Science and Technology, Ocean Technology, and Physics have been selected as the first batch of National First-class Majors, while Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering, and Electronic Information Science and Technology have been selected as Shandong Provincial First-class Majors. The faculty has several provincial, municipal, and school-level teaching masters and offers many nationally first-class undergraduate courses as well as provincially first-class undergraduate courses.

The interdisciplinary system of information and ocean, and the fusion of science and technology are the prominent features of the faculty's compound talent cultivation. The employment rate of graduates has remained above 90% for many years, and the proportion of students pursuing further studies is close to 50%. The quality of talent cultivation has received widespread praise from society.

The faculty is a leader domestically and internationally in research areas such as satellite ocean remote sensing, underwater acoustics detection, laser atmospheric remote sensing, deep-sea in-situ measurement, marine big data technology, marine sensor network technology, underwater robots and navigation positioning.
