Recently, the 18th "Challenge Cup" Shandong Province College Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Competition was successfully held, which was jointly organized by the Shandong Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League, the Shandong Provincial Association for Science and Technology, the Shandong Provincial Department of Education, the Shandong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Shandong Academy of Social Sciences, and the Shandong Student Union, and organized by Qilu University of Technology (Shandong Academy of Sciences).
After passing the preliminary selection of the school competition and the screening of the provincial competition, one project from the department was selected to participate in the final competition. Through fierce competition in on-site questioning, debating and other evaluation sessions, the "Multifunctional Water Quality Maintenance Robot Boat" project, submitted by undergraduates including Zhang Kai from the Department of Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering of the School of Information Science and Engineering in the year 2020, was awarded the first prize.
The "Challenge Cup" competition has received widespread attention from teachers and students in universities as well as from various sectors of society. It is known as the "Olympics" of academic science and technology activities for college students. This year's competition is divided into three categories: natural science academic papers, technological inventions and creations, and philosophical and social science social investigation reports. Since its launch in March 2023, it has attracted 141 universities in the province, 27,000 works, and 180,000 young students to participate enthusiastically. Finally, 195 works were selected to enter the final competition. The department regards the "Challenge Cup" competition as an important carrier for cultivating students' innovative spirit and practical ability, promoting learning and innovation through competition, organizing four projects to participate in the school-level competition, actively explore nurturing projects, improving the scientific literacy and innovation ability of participating students.
