On November 16th, the closing ceremony and award ceremony of the Huawei Ascend AI Innovation Competition 2022 was held in Xi'an. The team consisting of five members from the quantum department of the School of Information Science and Technology at Ocean University of China, including PhD students He Runhong, Alapati Abulimiti, Xie Yangyang, and Master's students Liang Xianghan and Li Chaochao, won 4 gold and 1 silver medals out of 5 quantum competition questions. In addition, Alapati Abulimiti won the third place in the "Best Popularity Award" in the Ascend track.
The Ascend AI Innovation Competition is a top-level event for AI developers, aiming to encourage developers from all industries to use Ascend computing technology to jointly develop software/hardware solutions, explore model algorithms, accelerate the integration of AI and industries, and promote the improvement of developers' abilities. This year's competition theme is "Smart Future, Inspired by You", guided by the Shaanxi Provincial Department of Science and Technology, sponsored by Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Ascend Ecological Innovation Center, Xi'an Ascend Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., etc., and jointly organized by the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Industry Technology Innovation Strategic Alliance (AITISA), OpenI Wisdom Community, and China Artificial Intelligence Development Alliance (AIIA) to promote the scale application of the artificial intelligence industry and lead the future of the new round of the artificial intelligence industry.
Quantum technology is a major technological innovation based on the principles of quantum mechanics, which impacts and reconstructs the traditional technological system. It will lead a new round of technological revolution and industrial change. Among them, quantum computing is considered as a disruptive new computing paradigm with great application value in the fields of artificial intelligence, economy and finance, material design, biological pharmaceuticals, marine science, etc.
This year's competition is divided into two tracks: "Application" and "Ascend". Among them, the Ascend track set up five questions in the field of quantum computing, covering cutting-edge technologies such as quantum variational algorithms, quantum generative adversarial networks, meta-learning, quantum transfer learning, and quantum neural networks. The event attracted many developers from top universities such as Zhejiang University, Tongji University, and Ocean University of China. After more than 5 months of fierce competition, the organizers selected a total of 5 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals based on completion speed, final accuracy, innovation, and completion quality. The team of 5 students from the School of Information Science and Technology won 4 gold medals and 1 silver medal.
