Publishing time:2020.11.17

After two weeks of preparation and intense competition, the first Haida-Heriot-Watt British Knowledge Competition finally came to an end. On November 13th, the elimination rounds and finals were held, and the eight students who made it to the elimination rounds showed their strengths in two rounds of competition. In the end, Lu Shi Yu won the championship, while Qu Wen Ze took the runner-up position. Through this knowledge competition, Haida-Heriot-Watt project students deepened their understanding of Heriot-Watt University and also stimulated their enthusiasm for learning and understanding British culture. The competition ended smoothly amidst the laughter and cheers of the students.

As the first question was projected onto the big screen, the elimination rounds officially began. The difficulty level of the questions ranged from easy to hard, and questions about Heriot-Watt University alternated with questions about basic knowledge of the UK. The eight contestants were eager to show their skills and knowledge, having prepared for the competition over the past two weeks and accumulated knowledge in their daily lives. They battled it out to score points and advance to the next round.

After 12 rounds of intense competition, both Player 1 (Qu Ze Wen) and Player 6 (Lu Shi Yu) advanced to the finals with a score of 9 correct answers each. The host introduced the rules of the final round, which were based on a point system and "winner-takes-all" format. The two players took turns answering 15 questions, and after 15 rounds, whoever had the highest score would become the champion. In the event of a tie, an additional round of "winner-takes-all" would be played, with the first player to answer incorrectly becoming the runner-up and their opponent being awarded the championship.

In the end, after 15 rounds of questions, Player 6 (Lu Shi Yu) defeated his opponent, Player 1 (Qu Ze Wen), with a score of 10 to 7, winning the championship!

Next up was the award presentation! The champion and runner-up each received a grand prize of Logitech mechanical keyboards and gaming mice, respectively. The other six students who made it to the elimination rounds also received excellent awards, making for a rewarding experience for all. Most importantly, all eight contestants who made it to the top eight were eligible to apply to become Haida-Heriot-Watt student ambassadors! After the competition, the players received student ambassador application forms. The student who eventually receives the honor of being a student ambassador will receive a certificate authenticated by Heriot-Watt University, with a one-year term in office!

With that, the first Haida-Heriot-Watt British Knowledge Competition came to a successful conclusion. We believe that the knowledge accumulated about Heriot-Watt University and British culture through this competition will lay a solid foundation for students' future studies and study abroad experiences. We look forward to seeing more outstanding performances from our students in the next year's competition!
