Review of the First OUC Heriot-Watt British Knowledge Competition Elimination Rounds and Finals

Publishing time:2021.10.22

Just yesterday, the elimination rounds and finals for the second Haida-Heriot-Watt British Knowledge Competition for the 2021 cohort of the Computer Science and Technology Program (Sino-foreign cooperative education) were held as scheduled! After two rounds of intense competition, Hu Erzhi emerged as the champion, with Yang Yang coming in as the runner-up. The atmosphere on the scene was lively, with members of the audience frequently "outshining" the contestants by giving correct answers and also gaining enriching knowledge from the competition.

First up was the elimination rounds. After emphasizing the rules of the competition, the teacher drew lots with playing cards to determine the order in which each of the eight students would answer questions. The student who drew the card numbered one answered first, and the student who drew the card numbered eight answered last. Each contestant had 10 seconds to answer each of their 10 questions, and there was no interference or distraction allowed between participants. The two students with the highest number of correct answers advanced to the finals.

Next up was the finals. Each of the two finalists had to answer 15 questions, and the one with the highest number of correct answers would be crowned the champion. After a tense and intense battle, Hu Erzhi emerged as the champion, having answered an impressive 12 out of 15 questions correctly, while Yang Yang answered 10.

And now, it's time for the awards ceremony! The champion and runner-up each received grand prizes of Logitech mechanical keyboards and gaming mice respectively. The other six students who made it to the elimination rounds also received commemorative awards, making for a fulfilling experience for all. Most importantly, all eight contestants who made it to the top eight were eligible to apply to become Haida-Heriot-Watt student ambassadors! They will have the opportunity to become representatives of Heriot-Watt University and receive a certificate authenticated by the university, with a one-year term in office!

With that, the entire second Haida-Heriot-Watt British Knowledge Competition has come to a successful conclusion. We hope that through this competition, students can deepen their understanding of Heriot-Watt University, our cooperative partner university in the program, and gain knowledge about the culture, geography, and other aspects of the UK, which is our destination country for studying abroad in the final year. Let's meet again next year!
