The China Postgraduate Electronic Design Contest (hereinafter referred to as "Elec-design Contest") was launched by Tsinghua University in 1996. It is a group electronic design innovation and creativity practice activity aimed at graduate students nationwide. The contest aims to enhance the innovative practical ability of graduate students, improve the quality of graduate education, and build a cooperative innovation platform for government, industry, academia, and research. After 16 years of accumulation, Elec-design Contest has become the top-level event in the field of domestic graduate student participation, with extensive influence in the industry. In 2020, the Ministry of Education, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Finance jointly encouraged graduate students to actively participate in Elec-design Contest and other graduate student innovation competitions.
The university highly values the development of the graduate student electronic design competition and information science. This year, for the first time in the 26-year history of the Elec-design Contest, it was held in Qingdao. It was jointly organized by Ocean University of China and ZKXymicroelectronics Co., Ltd., attracting 459 participating teams and over 1,500 participants. After the preliminary round, 139 participating teams from six provinces and autonomous regions including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia, and Shandong with nearly 300 graduate students entered the finals and competed against each other. The competition works cover multiple integrated circuit-related fields such as embedded systems, intelligent control, communication and network technology, information perception applications, information technology processing, AI, etc. The competition invited more than 30 experts from top universities such as Tsinghua University, Beihang University, and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as technical executives from leading companies such as Haier, Hisense, GoerTek, and Siemens to serve as judges. Through on-site demonstrations, judge questioning, and player defense, the shortlisted works were evaluated from the dimensions of technological leadership and application value, and eventually 41 participating teams advanced to the national finals.
